Aspiring Authors

New Pathways Press is always interested in viewing quality writing from non-fiction writers that include the following themes: self-help, body mind & spirit, transformation, spirituality, alternative healthcare, the environment, living green and energy solutions. Biographies of interesting people that fall into one of the above categories are also welcome. Poetry is another genre we publish with spiritual or inspirational themes. Please, no religious poetry.

Published and first time authors are welcome to submit a query letter.  Submissions of interest will be acknowledged within two months. At that time you will be asked to submit a Book Proposal. If you haven't received a response within that time frame it means we are not interested. Please do not resubmit your query.

Guidelines for Query Letters

Submit a query letter via email. (No attachments!) Queries are not accepted in any other manner.

  • Only submit work related to the above themes. No memoirs, religious, technical, academic or children's books.
  • At this time we are not accepting Poetry submissions.
  • No fiction.
  • Contact info should be clear, complete and placed at the top of the page. In the subject line put "Query letter for _________". Include your name in the blank space.
  • Remember to include your topic or theme in your query letter as well as book word count.
  • Do not include an outline at this time.
  • Do not send a partial or completed manuscript.
  • Do not submit queries for magazine articles, short stories, poems (at this time), novellas or novels.
  • Address your letter to Sarah Collins (publisher).
  • See the Pet Peeves page to know what bugs us!
Essentials of Your Query Letter
  • Write the query letter for an individual, taking into account the genres of interest. There's no point in sending a letter to a publisher that doesn't publish your particular topic or writing formats. And no cookie-cutter letters please!
  • A one page query letter is ideal (about 350 words, max.). Remember, you are sending an email, so be concise.
  • The first paragraph should include your book's working title (it may change), the genre or theme, a brief description of your book (summed up in 30 words or less), it's tone (humorous, dramatic, playful...) and the market(s) for your book. Knowing the market(s) is the author's job so do your research! Also mention if you were referred by someone or if you met us at a conference or elsewhere and were invited to submit.
  • The second paragraph is where you tell us in more detail about your book. But remember not to get carried away. Be succinct, limiting it to one paragraph. If we want more info, we'll contact you.
  • In the third paragraph describe who you are, any writing and publishing experience, and don't forget to mention if you belong to any organizations, write a blog, have relevant hobbies or any other information that would be useful in evaluating your credentials. Don't be discouraged if you don't have a long resume of experience. Enthusiasm and perseverance count!
  • Finally, ask if we would like to see an outline and/or a partial or complete manuscript. If you have clips we can view, please let us know but do not send at this time. If we are interested in your idea we will contact you and tell you the material we would like to see.
  • Remember, first impressions count. Be unique, be yourself, be professional.
